Checked trousers for the office | Trendy Capsule Outfit 1

Good morning guys, I can’t believe I’m starting my first series on Honestly Mili. In the following few months I’ll be sharing outfits from my Trendy Capsule wardrobe. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds – a capsule collection of 37 items which includes some of the hottest trends combined with my all time favourite essentials.  Today we’re talking about one of the biggest trends for Autumn 2017 – the checked print, and more specifically: how to wear checked trousers.

I’ve been on the hunt for a good quality pair of checked trousers that were dressy, didn’t look like leggings and didn’t cost an arm and leg. Is it too much for a girl to ask? Anyways, a short trip to Zara last week and I think I’ve found the perfect pair. They’re incredibly soft (even though it’s a poly-viscose blend) and fall nicely on the body. The trousers also have belt hoops and the very on-point side stripe, giving it this elusive sporty but actually dressy vibe. And finally, the length is cropped which is ideal for me and all of you petite friends.

But I think my favouirte part is this: the base of the check is light pink. The trousers are grey indeed, but the lines separating the checks are very pale pink. I decided to bring it the pink-iness by pairing it with my pink lace blouse from Primark. While I’m generally not a huge fan of Primark tops, I’ve recently found some great pieces, this top being one of them. The high neck, the fluted sleeves + the back lace detail completely sold me. Plus, the pink colour is one of the accents in my palette for the Trendy Capsule.

Obviously, for this look I’m going with the office vibes, since I’m working at my job today. Nothing too crazy, but a nice way to add a little bit of trends and colours to an otherwise plain outfit. I’ve paired the trousers with my lace up heels from Dune, and my new Zara tote. Guys, if you’ve never heard of Zara Special Prices, check it out! This bag is a total steal at £19.99! It’s my new tote for work and uni, and the grey colour is perfectly neutral yet not boring.

So to sum it up, grey + pink = the old new BFFs. This is an incredibly easy way to give a more modern, feminine vibe to an office classic. But in case this style is too preppy or formal for you, I’ll also be styling this pair of checked trousers with a pink slogan jumper, or a white graphic tee. It’s an incredibly versatile item and if you pick a tapered version like mine, it goes amazingly with both flat and heeled shoes.

So let me know, are you going to check the checked trousers out?
